=520 \\$aThe playing field in which new generations of journalists operate has changed in every sense. On the one hand, from the primacy of newsprint and radio broadcasts we have moved to audiovisual omnipresence, while information is today disseminated simultaneously with the news event, in multimedia format, linked to other information that complements and sustains it, and with the participation of the audiences, who comment on it, expand it, and even disseminate it on their own and on their own channels.Journalism students are trained today for a media industry that continues to search for a profitable business model, while news channels and formats are constantly updated and renewed. Furthermore, sports clubs have undertaken a process of information disintermediation, developing direct communication channels with their audiences.More than ever, the debate about the convenience of university education is gaining intensity. Degrees in Journalism, such as the one taught by the University of Valladolid, prepare their students, for example, for the practice of photojournalism, news television and cyberjournalism. They provide them with knowledge about professional regulations and deontological standards. They are offered to specialize in sports journalism, but also economic, political, cultural or scientific, along with a solid humanistic training. Along with this, the personal autonomy of those who choose to study a course at other European universities is multiplied, as well as job placement through the implementation in the media of the mandatory curricular and voluntary extracurricular internships that the Degree itself offers and manages. As a culmination of this process, Bachelor's and Master's students can demonstrate their maturity and skills through research work in communication, with a view to transferring knowledge to professional life. The result of this research, developed by those who are today young and qualified professionals with a promising career, is the book that begins here. Its authors describe various aspects of current sports journalism in an original and precise way. To do this, they have analyzed the media with the methodological tools of scientific research. They have interviewed both great sports information professionals (such as Juanma Castaño, Miguel Quintana, Susana Guasch, Fernando Evangelio, Carlos de Andrés and Javier Ares, among others) and elite athletes, European, World and Olympic champions (for example example, Amaya Valdemoro, Mayte Martínez, Ruth Beitia, Ona Carbonell or Verónica Boquete).Furthermore, this book opens and closes with the contributions of two other brilliant graduates of the UVA Degree in Journalism, XXX and XXX, who have managed to be pioneers in data journalism and television narration of sporting events.A thousand thanks to all of them for offering us this innovative book that describes the current role of information professionals and that is as vibrant as the sporting exploits it narrates. For me it has been an honor to coordinate it and a pleasure to edit it, working again with its authors, and so many times delighting myself with the interest of the text and the professional adventures it relates. I hope that the reader enjoys it as much as I do, and that reading it brings them closer to the current reality of our profession, journalism and communication in sports. How to cite: Ballesteros, Carlos (2025).
