But is there more to Malachi than an offering appeal? Furthermore, what is the purpose of the strong curse at the end of the text that leads many Jewish people to this day to avoid ending the reading of the book with its last verse? In "Blessing and Cursing in Malachi: A Reader-Oriented Approach", the text of Malachi is explored to uncover fresh insights, particularly concerning the themes of blessing and cursing. Three consecutive and complementary steps are taken to explore the book: a syntactic analysis, revealing the organization and flow of the text; a semantic analysis, uncovering themes and their relationships; and a communication analysis, examining the interaction between the Text-Internal Author and the Text-Internal Reader. The analyses reveal that blessing and cursing, although used differently compared to other parts of the Hebrew Bible, constitute an effective means of guiding the Text-Internal Reader to a proper relationship with the divine and their community.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</Text>

UBI promises replace the complex welfare bureaucracy with a single benefit – abandoning targets (such as the unemployed) and activation instruments (such as job-search requirements). This disarmingly simple idea has inspired policy experiments in many countries, the Netherlands among them. I show how UBI became a credible policy alternative in the Netherlands, with the capacity to fundamentally alter the course of the welfare state, but also atthe risk of losing the underlying revolutionary ideals.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</Text>

        <Text language="eng" textformat="03">&lt;p&gt;&lt;p&gt;My dissertation studies the questions that are found in Luke 1:5–2:52. It does so in order to find out how they function in the communication between the author and the reader of the text. To analyse the text, I employ the Communication-Oriented Method. This method makes two assumptions. Firstly, it holds that the syntax of the text forms the basic structure in which all communication takes place. This means that the ‘grammar’ of the text is first scrutinised before the meaning of words and the communication itself are investigated. Secondly, this method makes a strict distinction between the text-external (or historical) author/reader, and the text-internal author/reader. The text-internal author/reader are textual constructs and, therefore, found only within the text. In my dissertation I focus only on the communication between the text-internal author and the text-internal reader. In other words, I only analyse the communication within the text, leaving the historical author/reader to other fields of research. Regarding the text-internal communication, the text-internal author can communicate with the text-internal reader directly, or indirectly (via the characters in the narrative). After having first determined the basic structure of the text, I go on to identify the questions that are found in the text. Questions can usually be identified by words such as ‘why’, ‘what’, and ‘how’. Sometimes, the meaning of the text points at questions that are not explicitly mentioned in the text. I then make a communication analysis of the text, focussing on the identified questions. My analysis leads me to the following conclusions. In the communication with the text-internal reader, the text-internal author uses questions to focus this reader’s attention on the character John, to stimulate the reader to identify with the character Mary, to emphasise the relation between the character Jesus and the temple in Jerusalem, and to prepare this reader for further misunderstandings regarding Jesus’ identity in the narrative to come. Generally, the questions found in Luke 1:5–2:52 function at the level of the characters as a communication ‘motor’, with the goal of promoting, prolonging, and intensifying the communication between the characters. At the level of the text-internal author/reader, the questions in Luke 1:5–2:52 function as a narrative ‘motor’, driving the text-internal author’s narrative by setting further action and communication in motion.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</Text>

Daarmee bee?indigde hij een loopbaan van meer dan veertig jaar in het publieke domein. Camps bekleedde vanaf 2000 een leerstoel Organisatiekunde &amp; Bestuurskunde en richtte zich daarbij vooral op leiderschapsvraagstukken in maatschappelijke organisaties en in het openbaar bestuur. Camps combineerde zijn leerstoel lange tijd met het bestuursvoorzitterschap van de Berenschot Groep B.V. en met een aantal toezichthouderlijke functies in onder meer het onderwijs en de pensioenwereld. Het is een goede gewoonte dat bij het afscheid van een hoogleraar een liber amicorum samengesteld en aangeboden wordt. In dit “vriendenboek” reflecteren 34 auteurs op de betekenis (groot of klein) van Theo Camps voor organisaties in de volle breedte van het Nederlandse publieke systeem. Omdat de auteurs van deze bloemlezing vaak over de schouder van Camps heen reflecteren op meer algemene ontwikkelingen in het leiderschap in dit systeem, is de bundel ook betekenisvol voor degenen die niet het voorrecht hadden met hem te werken in de afgelopen vier decennia.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</Text>

        <Text language="eng" textformat="03">&lt;p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Polarization panic is omnipresent in the public as well as scientific debate in Europe. However, much is unclear about what kind of polarization is taking place, who is polarizing and why, and what the consequences of polarization are. Guided by theories regarding modernization, the schooled society, social identification, cleavage formation, a cultural backlash, and agonistic pluralism, I aim to clarify the "what", "who", "why", and "whatever" of polarization in Europe. I do so by investigating different forms of polarization between educational groups (Part I), between social identity groups and birth cohorts (Part II), and by disentangling the relationship between polarization and democracy (Part III). Grounded in six empirical chapters based on qualitative and quantitative methods, I conclude that polarization is perceived rather than actually occurring. These false perceptions are driven by a search for social recognition in an ever more individualistic society, resulting in identification with narrow social groups. Educational level is one example of such a social identity, as the schooled society has made knowledge and cognitive skills primary sources of social (mis)recognition. Stereotypical ideas about cognitive and moral superiority are strengthened by politics and social media, distorting the image we have of ourselves and others. This false polarization increases the risk of actual polarization becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy, which will strengthen distinctions between social identities in turn. Although polarization can be good for democracy, the lack of shared identity is affecting the democratic values of younger generations and conflict can erode the system when becoming too moralized. Therefore, the question "who are those people?" turns out to be a cause as well as a consequence of polarization in Europe, but it may also form the key to a solution&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</Text>
