He studied cultural and media studies in Berlin, London and Lüneburg. 2 B01 Petra Löffler Petra Löffler is Professor of Theory and History of Contemporary Media at Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg. Her particular research interests include postcolonial epistemologies and media ecologies in the Anthropocene with a special focus on coral reef histories, archival practices in the digital age, and material culture 3 A01 Marie Sophie Beckmann Marie Sophie Beckmann is a postdoctoral research and teaching associate at the Institute for Art and Visual Culture at Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg. She completed her doctorate in 2021 on the Cinema of Transgression as part of the DFG Research Training Program Configurations of Film at Goethe University Frankfurt. 4 A01 Charlotte Bolwin Charlotte Bolwin is a research assistant and associate at the department of media at Bauhaus University Weimar, where she is working on a project on digital media art and aesthetics. Previously, she studied cultural studies (M.A.) and literary studies (B.A.) in Berlin and Paris. 5 A01 Katrin Köppert Katrin Köppert is Junior Professor of Art History/Popular Cultures at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig, and was Substitute Professor for Transformations of Audiovisual Media at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (2021–22). Her research interests include queer media theory, queer art and/of AI, gender, race and photography, and post-/decolonial (media) theories (of the Anthropocene in/and digital culture). 6 A01 Armin Linke Armin Linke is a photographer and filmmaker whose work is dedicated to documenting human uses of technologies and knowledge. In a collective approach with other creatives, researchers and scientists, the narratives of his works expand on the level of multiple discourses. His research on the Anthropocene and the natural, technological and urban environment began with the Anthropocene Observatory project at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) in Berlin. 7 A01 Gabriele Schabacher Gabriele Schabacher is Professor of Media and Culture Studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Her research interests include the media history of transport, mobility and infrastructure, cultural techniques of repair, regimes of urban surveillance, and seriality research. 8 A01 Susan Schuppli Susan Schuppli is an artist-researcher based in the UK whose work examines material evidence from war and conflict to environmental disasters and climate change. Schuppli has published widely within the context of media and politics and is author of the book, Material Witness: Media, Forensics, Evidence. She is Director of the Centre for Research Architecture, Goldsmiths University of London and is an affiliate artist-researcher and Board Chair of Forensic Architecture. 9 A01 Solveig Qu Suess Solveig Qu Suess works within the fields of documentary film, art and research. Her practice is dedicated to addressing the challenges of representation in an increasingly calculated world, where capital, information and environments are enmeshed within regimes of power and control. Her research sits on the intersections of visual ethnography, environmental humanities and feminist science and technology studies. By turning to infrastructures, their logic and functioning, collapse and malfunction, the volume reveals their potential as fragile material witnesses to and of disasters. As climate change is unequally distributed across continuous dynamics and events, time scales and spatial registers, infrastructures can be understood as proxies or seismographs mediating different spatio-temporal layers that make these dynamics tangible. Disaster is made operational by negotiating what is defined as such, and under which geopolitical conditions. What connects melting glaciers and the knowledge from ice cores to the mapping of the ocean floor and the extraction of resources in the deep-sea? How can infrastructures be thought in time and “critical proximity”, and how do they bear witness to colonial pasts and presents?
